ABOUT BIMA
The Bernales Institute (BIMA) is focused on teaching children and adults how to effectively defend themselves in a street confrontation. First and foremost, the curriculum at BIMA focuses on practical self-defense. We emphasize techniques for actual combat situations rather than competition or points. Although the core of our program is based on self-defense and “counter-offense,” tournaments can be important for development in the arts and we provide opportunities for competition.
We offer a variety of martial arts to fit your interests and needs. BIMA provides an engaging community environment in which individual development is emphasized and learning occurs through a structured but fun atmosphere.
Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee freedom from aggression in this world. BIMA is devoted to instilling skills that will allow anyone—regardless of age, gender, or body type—to learn how to protect themselves regardless of whether an attack comes with fists, feet, or a weapon. Aggressive people don't operate by rules, so BIMA is dedicated to enabling you to defend yourself regardless of what may come your way.
For example, Jeet Kune Do encompasses Bruce Lee's life's work. JKD is focused on the utilization of the body in constantly evolving techniques to provide an answer to most self-defense situations.
Jiu-Jitsu enables practitioners to effectively defend themselves from a wide variety of attacks, such as grabs, bear hugs, throat grabs, or being pulled into an alley or car. Jiu-Jitsu provides useful techniques for both standing and ground situations.
Kali / Filipino Martial Arts (F.M.A.) teaches how to effectively defend against weapons and disarm an attacker's knife, club, or potentially a gun, and is ultimately an empty hands system.
Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing, is the art of nine weapons—focusing on the body's natural weapons: the fist, elbow, knee, and shin.
One or all of these arts—or others offered at BIMA—can meet your needs.
Whether you want to have an enjoyable experience and get into shape, learn necessary skills for a career in law enforcement, or are simply fascinated by a variety of martial arts, BIMA will help you to find the best program for you.
